The Broome council members unanimously overturned their shamefull decision to drop it's sister city status with Taiji, Japan and has apologized for it's offense. The original decision, made in haste and without any thought based entirely on a few of the council members feeling about criticism of their connection with Taiji's and it's annual dolphin hunt after the release of the movie "The Cove", lead to a backlash within their community.
The move was disrespectful to Japan and Taiji, and a touch hypocritical when you realize that Australia has an annual nationwide kangaroo cull that kills thousands of kangaroo yearly. Apparently killing some cute fuzzy animals is OK for them but not for anyone else.
